What do I need to run a raffle or lottery legally?You will most likely need a Small Society Lottery Licence to run a raffle. The licence will enable you to run multiple raffles or lotteries each year where your players will pay to enter for the chance to win prizes. A Small Society Lottery Licence has a maximum limit of £20,000 in ticket sales per draw or £250,000 in a calendar year. Can I combine offline sales with my online sales?
Yes! We can either conduct a pre draw on the offline and online data pots to determine if the winning player came from offline or online sales. A draw can then be conducted by the society from offline ticket sales or if the winner came from the online pot, we shall provide the winning entrant’s details to the society. OR if the draw is made at an event or other non remote draw is required, we will provide a CSV with the remote entrants and these can be then combined with non remote ticket sales. Find out more.
Does Zaffo supply prizes for us to raffle?
Not currently. From time to time we provide a prize or prizes for an open prize draw on Zaffo.com. Any charity that is already registered can sell tickets to these prizes and be the beneficiary from those ticket sales. It is not mandatory to participate in open prize draws.
How do you promote our raffle to new players?
We can help you with ticket sales and cold player acquisition. We promote your raffle on Zaffo.com to new players through social media, our blog and through social media advertising. There are no upfront costs to you, however we will need access to copy and imagery from the society to do this. Who owns the player’s data?
We are ICO compliant and act as a data processor for your charity marketing.
When do we get our proceeds paid?
Zaffo shall pay the Society Sums arising in respect of the Society Proceeds within 15 days of the end of the applicable month within which the Prize Draw closed.
How do you get paid?
You are paid net of our 10% management fees. Zaffo shall pay the Society Sums to the account of the Participating Society listed in the Registration process or otherwise agreed between the Participating Society and Zaffo.com.
Is VAT included?
The percentage of the Society Proceeds calculated as the Society Sums is inclusive of VAT and, where VAT is required to be paid by applicable law on the Society Sums, the Society is responsible for accounting to HMRC for the applicable amount of VAT. In such circumstances, Zaffo shall provide a valid VAT invoice giving the necessary details of the taxable supply.
I want to terminate, how can I?
You can terminate with 3 months’ written notice. For Zaffo.com, in this launch phase there are no monthly fees and you can cancel the account, you can remove your raffles immediately.
What if one of my players has a query?
We provide online and telephone player support and act as a front line for online and remote player queries, financial and game related. We run dedicated email and telephone support that’s staffed during work hours (Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm).
Can we include a list of options (i.e. £20 for tickets, £15 for 3…) or 'Money Buys'?
You can with Zaffo Pro and our Agency services.
What is the timeline of getting the raffle launched on Zaffo?
2 days from receipt of assets.
What is Zaffo's main recommendation of publicising and pushing the raffle out to wider audiences?
Use all channels available, social, corporate supporters, staff, supporters, all you can think of.

What data do we get from participants? Is there a data protection statement?

You send us a file with the number range sold offline and we can include these in the online draw.
What is the legality surrounding text codes and QR codes? Could we log this as an offline ticket purchase?
No to text payment, there is no society lottery short code currently. Yes to link back to website from SMS or QR Code.
What happens if we surpass the £20,000 limit on a small society license?
You can limit the tickets to £20,000
Which countries could be involved in the raffle?
Legally a player can enter a UK society lottery from outside the UK, however the country you are entering from may legally prevent you from entering.
What are the Ts and Cs and would we have help from Zaffo putting these together?
You will be provided with template Terms and Conditions on Zaffo.com and Zaffo Pro.
What do you need from me to set up the raffle online?

Who can use Zaffo to raise funds?
Zaffo supports all licensed societies who have charitable aims. All our clients hold Small Society Lottery licences or Large Society Lottery Licences. Societies can cover PTA’s, sports clubs, charities, membership organisations, corporate fundraisers and others. Get in touch with us directly if you are unsure.
Is a bespoke website build included in Zaffo Pro?
Can I run multiple raffles on the site/page at anyone time?
You can run multiple raffles with any of our services.
Can you confirm that the 10% management fee relates to all transactions going through the site/various raffles? Is this negotiable?
We do not negotiate on fees, our 10% fees cover all transactional, services, management and player support.
Would I be able to offer advertising space on the site for several of my partner companies?
